New painting... of our lil Bella, never got to see the world but immortalised in Oils forever now x

Lioness, first foray into fur!

Well I've set Bella aside for today, fresh eyes and dry paint for when I visit her next..

Today I've been having a fight with a Lioness, over fur! I'm the worlds worst for wanting fine detail and the canvas I am using is informing me in no uncertain terms I'm to early!... (Next time either board or extra fine canvas for me) so I have tried a different approach, I am working up the texture of the fur as (I hope) you can see. Plan being to build this layer all over then balance out the correct colours and see where detail is needed...

As its gone along I'm really pleased with the result, coming along nicely...

I do hate hitting these walls, but each time I knock one down I feel I become a better artist so bring em on!!

Well progress is being made, I was going to work up the background but as ever I found myself compelled to work the face up as it really does set the tone for the rest of the image, been a busy week so not been able to do a great deal but as you can see the eye area is coming along well... The week ahead should see some real development so stay tuned!

This painting is in its very early stages at the moment, really just base tones, I will be working up the background first then Bella herself... Hope you enjoy the progress!

New ways to stay in touch

Firstly I will be posting an image of my latest commission here in the next couple of days and I have another which I will be making a start on very soon indeed...

Reason for the post is that if you like my work you can now support me via the power of social media!.... as you see in this post you can tweet this post on your feed and all your followers can then link over and (I hope) do the same...

I hope you like the new additions to the blog, I feel a refresh coming on and also some more regular updates as people often ask me how I do what I do and get the level of detail, at the time whenever asked I never really know what to say, so it'll be easier if I answer some of those things through here.. if you have any questions drop them over and I will add them to the list :)

New Year, New design

Hi all...


I hope you all had a good New Years eve and are already working hard on those resolutions!.. I have only 2 resolutions this year, walk my dogs more and paint more... neither easy to squeeze in but will be worth the efforts..


As you can see I have given the blog a facelift, on account of the dawn of 2011 and also the fact that the website I hosted is going to shut down on the 15th, I wanted to keep everything on one site, and also why pay when I can do the same thing for free here!
